A Maricopa High School teacher was arrested May 15 in Maricopa County for marijuana possession and use and drug paraphernalia possession and use.

Charles Allman, a 33-year-old social studies teacher, has not been employed by the Maricopa Unified School District since May 15, Human Resources Director Tom Beckett said this week.

Beckett said he could not comment on why Allman is no longer with the district or on the charges against him.

A substitute teacher is instructing Allman’s classes for the remainder of the school year.

Allman was arrested at 6:45 a.m. by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, said Officer Chris Hegstrom, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Allman was arrested in Maricopa County in 2009 for marijuana and in 2010 for drug paraphernalia, according to court records.
