More MHS swimming records fall on the road

Maricopa High School girl swimmers set more school records as the Rams competed in their only “away” meet of the season.

Senior Olivia Byers won two events. She swam the 100 butterfly in 1:12.4, a new school record, and the 200 freestyle in 2:16.7.

“While both the guys and the girls recorded losses, it was a great night of swimming for our team,” said head coach Laura Logan. “The growth of these swimmers and the week-to-week improvement is exciting.”

MacKenzie Fair set a school record in winning the 200 individual medley in 2:23.4. Katelyn Owens won the 100 breaststroke in 115.3, also a school record.

Sophia Occhiline won the 50 free in 30.5.

In second place were Owens in the 100 free, Fair in the 500 free, Emily Hollingsworth in the 200 free, Aubree Wittemann in the 50 free, Dorianne Hames in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke, the 200 free relay team of Fair, Owens, Hames and Byers and the 200 medley relay team of Fair, Owens, Hames and Byers.

In third place were Hollingsworth in the 500 free, Katelynn James in the 100 fly, Rylee Pirtle in the 100 backstroke and the 400 free relay team of Hollingsworth, James, Izzy Piwowar and Wittemann.

The girls finished behind Westwood, 89-80.

On the boys’ side, Rafe Scoresby won the 50 free in 27.5 and the 500 free in 6:14.37. Connor Schrader won the 100 free in 50.2 and the 100 backstroke in 58.1.

Scoring second-place finishes were Morgan Godfrey in the 500 free and the 200 medley relay team of Schrader, Geric Kramarcyzk, Abel Rodriguez and Andy Varga; the 200 free relay team of Schrader, Victor Moreno, Rodriguez and Varga; and the 400 free relay team of Ian Byers, Cole Perry, Scoresby an Kramarcyzk.

In third place were Varga in the 200 free, Godfrey in the 200 individual medley, Rodriguez in the 100 fly and Kramarcyzk in the 100 breaststroke.

The next meet is Thursday and will be the final meet of the regular season.
