While many Maricopa 12-year-olds were watching the Major League Baseball All-Star game last week, Tailor Murphree was participating (see related story).

Murphree competed in the Aquafina MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition during All-Star weekend at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, finishing second in her age division nationally.

In addition to the competition, which judges participants’ baseball skills, Tailor got to catch balls in the home run derby and meet her favorite players.

“She had a great time,” said Murphree’s mom, Stacy, who added that all of the players and representatives were extremely helpful and accommodating to her daughter.

In addition to bringing home a trophy for her second place finish, Murphree also brought home new shoes, a hat for every major league team, autographed balls, jerseys and more.

“We are just so proud of her,” Stacy said.
