Kleck announces resignation

Jeff Kleck, superintendent of the Maricopa Unified School District, announced tonight he is resigning effective June 30, 2012.

Kleck made the announcement during the regular meeting of the MUSD Governing Board.

In a prepared statement he read to the board, staff and everyone attending the meeting, Kleck listed his accomplishments in leading the district with the support of the administration and district staff.

Kleck said his greatest accomplishments were in the area of improving instruction, including raising reading and math scores and increasing the graduation rate.

***ADVERTISEMENT***Kleck did not say why he is resigning or what his plans are after he leaves the district.

He concluded saying that he would fill his contractual duties in a professional and ethical manner through June 30 and wished the district the very best in its search for a new superintendent.

Kleck was hired as superintendent in February 2010 for a two-year contract that began July 1, 2010 and ended June 30, 2012. His yearly salary is $110,000.
