MUSD override: Pro statement

538

The Maricopa Education Foundation strongly supports the MUSD override proposal.

We understand that a child’s education is critical to their personal enrichment and success and adequate funding is paramount for a school district to deliver the best education possible to that child.

Unfortunately, the state of Arizona has continually underfunded public education, resulting in the state’s consistent bottom 10 percent ranking in per student funding when compared to the rest of the nation.

To make a dire situation worse, the nation’s and state’s economy has required budgets to be cut, further reducing the underfunded education budget.

Since the 2007-2008 school year, the Maricopa Unified School District has received between $2 million to $3 million dollars less each year than the amount received during the 2006-2007 school year.

This override proposal will return to the district a significant portion of the annual dollars pulled from its budget, bringing it that much closer to having the resources it needs.

The Maricopa Education Foundation’s mission is to promote educational excellence in Maricopa. These override funds are necessary for the district to continue on the path of delivering educational excellence.

This is why we recommend a “yes” vote on the override proposal.
