MUSD: Incoming superintendent finds Maricopa has lots of positives

I am very pleased to be the new superintendent of the Maricopa Unified School District. My wife and I bought a home in Maricopa and we will be moving in the first week of July. We are looking forward to living in Maricopa.

I am very proud to be an educator. For the past 21 years I have served as a school superintendent. Prior to that time I was a middle school principal and a high school assistant principal. I was a high school teacher for eight years. All of my experience has been in Washington State.

Earlier this year, I began to investigate the city of Maricopa and MUSD to see if it was the type of place where I would want to serve as superintendent.

What I learned made a very positive impression on me.

I learned the community is family-friendly, has affordable housing and a reasonable cost of living. I learned the school district has excellent facilities and a reputation of dedicated teachers, classified staff and administrators.

During the interview process I had the opportunity to meet with community members, staff and Maricopa High School students.

The community members told me the future of the city is very bright, and they said the school district is a vital part of the community. Staff said there is a lot of excellent staff teamwork directed at improving the educational program for students.
