Sports bar to open in former Arena location

A new sports bar will be coming to Maricopa in the space formerly occupied by the Arena Sports Grill near Bashas’ Grocery Store.

Called O’Shays, the new business at 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite 101, will be an Irish-American themed sports grill.

Co-owners Shay Deverse and Ted Schroder are now interviewing employees and remodeling the restaurant to give it a new look. They are continuing to accept applications. Anyone interested in applying should drop by and look for Deverse and Schroder.

“We still want to see the local talent, even when we open,” Deverse said. “We are making it a point to hire locally.”

The owners are hoping to open later this month or in the beginning of October and are making some changes from when it was Arena.

“We got rid of the dividing wall, and we’ve got 13 55-inch hi-definition big screens,” Schroder said. “We will also have the ceiling-mounted projector and have the games on the wall screen.”
