Wife killed after van hits tandem bicycle

A woman was killed near Casa Grande yesterday after the tandem bicycle she was riding with her husband was struck from the rear by a Chrysler minivan driven by an 86-year-old man.

Pam Pangburn, 47, of Casa Grande, suffered severe injuries to her chest and head and was pronounced dead at Casa Grande Medical Center, according to PCSO.

The driver of the bicycle, Brian Pangburn, 46, suffered substantial chest injuries and was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. The condition of the husband is unknown, according to the report.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Trekell and Peters roads around 9:30 a.m. Both Pangburns were wearing helmets and using a red strobe light to warn drivers when they were struck by J.B. Gore of Arizona City.

Gore did not show signs of impairment at the scene and consented to give blood for testing.
