Patrols nab 21 for DUI over holiday weekend

Twenty-one DUI arrests were made in Maricopa Friday and Saturday as part of the Pinal County Regional DUI Task Force saturation patrols.

The patrols coincided with the Cinco de Mayo holiday.

Maricopa police participated in the patrols, along with officers with specialized training in DUI detection from Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Casa Grande, Coolidge and Eloy police departments.

Thirty-three officers and deputies conducted the patrols.

PCSO Sgt. Hunter Rankin said while the use of designated drivers had been on the rise during the past two task-force operations, this past weekend officers saw a drop in the number of people who planned ahead.

The average blood alcohol content (BAC) of those arrested for DUI was 0.154, with the state legal limit being .08. For more information on task force activity see the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety
