Pima Butte’s halls alive with sounds of music

The halls were alive with the sounds of music as Pima Butte Elementary School presented its first-ever holiday concerts on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Principal Janelle Lowey remarked, “I couldn’t be more thrilled with our first holiday programs. The students and staff did a wonderful job.”

Dennis Michalski, the musical director, echoed Lowey’s sentiments, “It’s great seeing the turnout. These kids are top notch!”

Tuesday evening’s performance, “A Maricopa Holiday,” featured grades 3 – 6. Students sang the following numbers:

Third grade: “Here We Come A-Wassailing” and “Deck the Hall”

Fourth graders provided a rendition of all twelve days of Christmas.

Fourth grade: “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and “Winter Fantasy”

The Mustang Band, under the direction of Dennis Michalski, performed for the very first time.

In its inaugural performance, the Mustang Band performed “Rolling Along,” “Hot Cross Blues,” “A Mozart Melody” and “Jingle Bells.” The band consists of 43 fifth and sixth grade students. Two percussionists, 15 flutists, 15 clarinets, four trumpets, six saxophones and one trombone player provide the musical balance.

“A Holiday Wish” was the title of Wednesday evening’s performance, featuring students in kindergarten through second grade. Their selections included:

The families and friends of Pima Butte Elementary students packed the multi-purpose room for both nights of Maricopa holiday music. Students received enthusiastic response to each and every performance, while a multitude of camera flashes captured the students and the event.
