The Pinal County Board of Supervisors interviewed three candidates Wednesday to replace Rep. Bret Roberts in the state legislature.

Roberts represented Legislative District 11, which includes Maricopa, but resigned his seat Sept. 30.

The candidates for the position, selected by the district’s Republican precinct committee members, are Kirk Fiehler, Teresa Martinez and Steve Smith. The supervisors will review their testimony and appoint Roberts’ successor at their meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Supervisor Jeff McClure, who represents Maricopa in District 4, was asked if he had any thoughts on what the candidates had to say in their presentations. He said he did but would not share his thoughts.

“We’ll have a lot more to say next Wednesday,” he said.

The supervisors also interviewed candidates to replace Rep. Frank Pratt of LD-8, who died Sept. 21. His successor will also be appointed at Wednesday’s meeting.
