To promote reading, Maricopa Elementary School held its Polar Express Adventure Tuesday evening.

“This is all about continuing to grown and learn,” said MES Principal Rachelle Reese.

Parents, students and staff came together to celebrate the holiday season and their commitment to increasing students’ knowledge through reading.

At 5 and 5:45 p.m. teachers, wearing slippers and bathrobes, read holiday stories to children in every classroom.

In between reading sessions, many of which featured the popular “Polar Express” story,
the school’s PTO sold cookies, brownies, apple cider and hot cocoa. There was also a holiday shopping table.

Children donned pajamas and brought favorite stuffed animals. Each child received a bell at the end of the event and could have their photo taken on the train.

At 6 p.m. the choir, composed of third, fourth and fifth graders, presented a holiday concert. Until the event ended at 7 p.m. staff members sang holiday carols.

On Friday, at the end of the school day, Mr. Snow Man brought candy canes to all students to celebrate this semester’s successes.
