Rams Baseball wins big in the last inning

The Maricopa High School baseball team capitalized on poor pitching Wednesday to beat Baboquivari 11-2.

Coach Steve Pappas said their team was too loose before facing a conference team they hadn’t played yet this year.

“They didn’t come out ready to play,” Pappas said.

Lionel Iglesias was an exception, pitching a complete game with 11 strikeouts.

Boston Friel went three-for-four in the game, but the rest of the Rams were unable to provide the offense Iglesias needed to secure the win until late in the game.

Maricopa and Baboquivari were tied at two until the top of the sixth inning when the Rams scored one run to take the lead.

A series of walks and wild pitches allowed the Rams to score eight runs in the top of the seventh bringing the final score to 11-2.

The win is the fifth straight for the Maricopa High baseball team. Their next game will be Friday against Antelope High, which the Rams beat 7-1 March 20.
