The Maricopa High School boys’ basketball team continued to pile up power poll points with a 73-62 victory against Coolidge Tuesday.

The win brings the Rams’ overall record to 7-3 in conference play and 14-4 overall.

“Our boys went out and played a great game,” said Rams head coach Andy Branchik.

Leading the way for the Rams was Terrance Motley, who is averaging double figures in both points and rebounds, and Larson Arey with 22 points.

With seven conference games remaining this year, the team will need to string together victories in order to secure a place in the playoffs. In Arizona playoff placement is determined by rankings in power polls.

These polls assign points to each victory, and the top 16 ranked teams advance to a playoff. Currently the Rams are rated 14.

“We hold our destiny in our own hands,” Branchik said.

Up next for the Rams is a home game against Empire this Friday at 7 p.m.

The boys’ soccer team also managed another win, finishing their match in a 1-1 tie against Antelope and, subsequently, a 2-1 win in overtime.

Up next for the soccer team is a road game this Thursday against Canyon State Academy at 4 p.m.
