Maricopa students in grades K-8 can get some free online training in disaster relief this summer.

The Red Cross Masters of Disaster educational curriculum is now available for download from the Arizona PBS station, channel eight, at KAET’s website.

The program teaches children about personal safety, preparedness and disasters, including facing fears about such events.

“This program is a great fun, family activity that teaches kids how disasters happen,” said Tracey Kiest, communications manager for Grand Canyon chapter of the American Red Cross.

The materials for the program meet national educational standards and include lessons, videos, worksheets, glossaries, certificates of completion and more.

The program was made available to the general public through a $50,000 grant donation from State Farm Insurance.

“We are making it our business to be a good neighbor and strengthen communities through general education programs,” said Gus Miranda, State Farm Public Affairs Representative.
