Single-family building permits increase

The number of single-family residence permits pulled by developers in December rose to 22, putting an end to six consecutive months of decline.

The 22 permits mark the highest number pulled since October, when 25 developers pulled permits.

In November there was a record low of eight permits pulled; in December 2007 there were 98 permits pulled.

The 22 permits pulled in December brought the 2008 average permits per month to 76, although cities operate on a fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.

The average number of single-family permits per month during the 2008-2009 fiscal year thus far is 41.
