Spend ‘game day’ in Maricopa

The game: Super Bowl XLIV. On one side of the field stands a football team from an area ravaged by 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, one of history’s worst natural disasters. On the other side stands a squad led by arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time looking to further add to his legacy.

The New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts will take to the field this Sunday to decide the NFL championship. For most fans, the easy choice on Super Bowl Sunday is choosing the team they want to win. The hard choice: at what venue to do it. Owners of Maricopa eateries and pubs have their game face on for Sunday’s big game, offering citizens a wide variety of options on where to take in the sights, sounds and, yes, the commercials. Here’s a look:

Arena Sports Grill

Not only will the teams score on the many big screens located throughout the establishment, but customers will have the opportunity to get into the game, too. The restaurant is doing a free Super Bowl “box game” in which a 10-by-10 square is drawn and then divided into segments, with each square corresponding to a number vertically and horizontally. Customers then select a square and at the end of each quarter of play, the last two numbers from each team’s score are matched to the corresponding square with the same number.

For the first three quarters of play, the winners will receive gift cards and other prizes. However, the winner of the fourth and final quarter will be rewarded a 42-inch LCD television.

Arena Sports Grill will open at 11 a.m. on Sunday, but customers can drop by on Saturday to choose their squares. But to win, the customer must be present during the game. In addition to the free prizes, the restaurant will offer drink and shot specials.

Native New Yorker

At the Native New Yorker, the focus for game day will be big eats. The restaurant and bar is offering all-you-can eat game-day specials for $12.95, including one draft beer or a soft drink. If you don’t want to stay for the game, Native New Yorker is also offering take-out specials, which include 36 wings for $17.99 or two cheese pizzas and 36 wings $30.99.

Teakwoods Tavern and Grill

Teakwoods will start  the party early with live entertainment. The local bar and pub is hosting popular cover band Los Guys to rock the house from noon until kick off. The band will play popular music, and no cover is required.

However, that’s not only thing happening at the home of the moose. Teakwoods is offering a bevy of football-friendly food and drink specials.

The Sliver Spur

There’s more! The Silver Spur, located in The Duke at Rancho El Dorado, will offer up $5 appetizers and $2 domestic drafts on game day.
