MUSD serves hundreds during Summer Food Program

For the sixth year, Maricopa Unified School District is gearing up for its Summer Food Program. This year, Suzette Moe is expecting around 700 children to participate.

Moe is the director of the Child Food and Nutrition Programs at MUSD. She operates the program that serves free meals to children Monday through Thursday in June. This year, MUSD will have three schools serving breakfast and lunch and one school serving lunch.

After the Summer Food Program started in other Arizona districts, Moe said MUSD started getting requests from students and parents for the service.

It is open to any child under 18 years old.

“It’s for anybody within walking distance of the school, whether they attend that school or not,” Moe said.

Children do not have to register, and there is no income requirement. The Summer Food Program is operated in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Arizona Department of Education.
