SUV stuck on tracks holds up train

An unidentified woman with three children in her SUV, including an infant, made a u-turn on a private dirt road off Edwards Avenue and got stuck on the train tracks, holding up a Union Pacific train Tuesday afternoon.

Maricopa Police Department spokesman Ricky Alvarado said the woman was attempting to make a u-turn when her vehicle got lodged on the tracks. Union Pacific held up a westbound train about a quarter mile away.

About 3 p.m. a tow truck was removing the vehicle. Alvarado said Union Pacific officials would have to examine the tracks before the train could continue, but the tracks were expected to be cleared for use later Tuesday afternoon.

Vehicle traffic was not affected along other sections of the track.

The woman could be cited for trespassing, and possibly other violations, Alvarado said.
