Bret Roberts has announced his candidacy for constable, Maricopa precinct No. 8.

In a press release, Roberts said he and his cadre of volunteers have begun gathering in support of his nomination to be placed on the ballot for the Aug. 26 primary.

“I don’t want to do a good job for the people of Maricopa, I want to do a great job,” Roberts said.  “The constable is one of two elected law enforcement positions, the other being the sheriff. The history of the constable is just as rich and full as the history of the sheriff, especially in Arizona,”

He pointed out that Wyatt and Virgil Earp were constables.

“It is my goal to bring back at least some sort of presence in the community to this position,” Roberts said. “After all it is an elected position and therefore the Constable answers to the public.”

Roberts was a firearms certified detention officer in the transportation division of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and currently is a senior loan processor for Union Bank. He works with the Arizona Teenage Republicans and Junior Achievement of Arizona.

Roberts also is a graduate of the city of Maricopa’s Citizen Leadership Academy 2013 and a current participant the Maricopa Advocate Program.

His moved to Maricopa in 2009. He and is wife have three children.
