Council considers new subdivision; road-repair work

The Maricopa City Council will vote Tuesday on a preliminary plat for a new development named Cortona with 1,480 residential units.

The approximately 487-acre plot of land is south of Farrell Road, west of Murphy Road, north of Steen Road and east of Hartman Road.

The council also will vote on the site plan for the regional park next to the multigenerational center and aquatic center on the corner of John Wayne Parkway and Bowlin Road.

The park will feature a lake, amphitheater, dog parks and a skate park as well as traditional amenities.

In other action, members of the council will decide what to name the new neighborhood park in the Heritage District at Lexington and Roosevelt avenues, choosing between three resident-submitted names: Heritage Park, Estrella Park and Old Town Park.

Approximately $526,733 in contracts for citywide road repairs and general maintenance will be voted on:

  • Two separate contracts with CPC Construction, Inc. and Cafco, Inc. for the rubber crack sealing of city streets and necessary materials. CPC Construction, Inc. would perform the work and Cafco, Inc. would provide the materials. Both contracts are for no more than $70,000 each.

  • Two additional contracts with CPC Construction, Inc., each not to exceed $50,000, for other city repairs are up for approval. One contract is for asphalt work, repair maintenance throughout the city and the other contract is for citywide concrete repairs.

  • A contract with Southwest Slurry, Inc. for no more than $226,733 to apply slurry seal to city streets.

  • A $60,000 contract with Pavement Markings, Inc. to paint the lines and stripes on the city’s streets.
