The Maricopa City Council unanimously appointed Jim Irving to the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission Tuesday. Irving, a former Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board member, was nominated by Councilman Marvin Brown.

"Jim has been very instrumental in working with the school district for many years," Brown said.

Irving moved to Maricopa in 2005 and is a member of the Maricopa Education Foundation and on the community advisory board for Maricopa High School’s Career and Technical Education program.

"I'm very excited about it," Irving said. "It gives me a chance to blend what I do with the schools and tie it in to what the city is doing. I look forward to helping the schools and the city as they make plans together in the future. I'd like to give my thanks to Councilman Brown and the city council for trusting me with the important role of being on the commission."

The Planning & Zoning Commission reviews projects and applications and makes recommendations to the City Council for legislative action.

The Commission next meets Monday at 6 p.m. at City Hall. On the agenda are the selection of a chair and vice chair and public hearing for an above-ground fuel tank conditional use permit.
