Maricopa resident going ‘by the book’ to sell home

While many turn to real-estate agents to sell their homes, Maricopa resident Nora Cunningham turned to a book.

Cunningham moved from Tennessee into her brand new Glennwilde subdivision home in May 2008. She had sold her home in the South and purchased the Maricopa residence, which had a value of $133,000. “I just thought at the time that this is where God wanted me to be,” she said.

However, as the months rolled along, Cunningham realized Arizona was not the place for her. “I realized by December that I had missed the direction God had sent me,” she said.

To help her find the right path, Cunningham packed up all of her belongings, most of which were still in boxes, and moved back to her parents’ home.

However, one thing stayed behind — the home she purchased in Maricopa.

When debating about how to sell that home, Cunningham came across a book, “How to Sell your Home in 5 Days” by Bill G. Effros.

This five-day sale requires that she get a minimum of 25 people to tour and make a bid on her 1,300-square-foot home. In order to solicit these parties, she has placed ads on inmaricopa.com, Craig’s List and in the Arizona Republic.

The starting bid for the home is $24,500, and the house will be sold “as is” to the highest bidder. In order to place a bid, a person must first tour the home during this weekend’s open house that runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cunningham will than sort the bids by amount and call the top bidders to start an auction that increases in increments of $500.

She said she hopes she can use the money she makes from selling the house to find her personal and spiritual calling back east.
