Russ Kimball, a Maricopa resident and father of city councilman Bridger Kimball, announced plans this week to run for justice of the peace in the Maricopa/Stanfield District 8.

“It’s time for me to once again give back to the community,” Kimball said in a press release. “The Justice Courts in our state belong to the people. They are the people’s courts. Having been a law enforcement officer for many years, being around the courts, and dealing with the law since the early-1970s, I want to serve this community and return the court to the people of this precinct.”

Kimball would not identify the federal agency for which he currently works, but said his job entails national security and he is a team leader to 25 special investigators in several states operating with a budget of more than $16.6 million.

According to a campaign flier, Kimball was picked in 1990 to coordinate a multi-national task force investigation the killings of nine Buddhists in a temple west of Phoenix. He opened a private investigations firm in 1994. The events of 911 prompted him to go back into public service.

“Our Justice Court needs many things, including new technologies to help our law enforcement officers and our citizens such as e-tickets and video court, to name just two,” he said in his announcement. “We also must secure the courthouse, keeping our staff, citizens and law enforcement officers safe.”
