Republican Scott Bartle, longtime Maricopa resident, small business owner and member and former president of the Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board, announced Tuesday his switch to run for the open Senate seat in Legislative District 11 currently held by Sen. Al Melvin, R-Tucson. Melvin has announced his race for governor.

Originally, Bartle announced his candidacy for the House, but said he can have the greatest impact in the Senate.

“Who we elect is important to the future of our area,” Bartle said, “Job creation, excellent educational opportunities and safe neighborhoods are some of the top priorities in our district. My background and experience uniquely qualify me to serve in the Arizona Senate. I will work hard for the issues that are most important to the voters of our district.”

Bartle brings an extensive business background to the race and is a strong supporter of quality education.

Maricopa resident Joyce Hollis said, “Scott Bartle has shown his commitment to this community as a businessman, a civic leader and a member of the MUSD school board. As a member of the Arizona Senate, his sense of responsibility and his obvious leadership will continue to capably represent and serve his constituents.” Hollis is a former editor of InMaricopa.com, Bartle’s publishing enterprise.

Bartle filed the necessary paperwork Monday with the Secretary of State for his Senate run. He can be contacted through Facebook.com/votescottbartle.
