Border fence website goes live

Sen. Steve Smith’s (R-Maricopa) much-anticipated website to solicit donations for construction of a fence along the Arizona-Mexico border is now up and running. Visitors can begin making donations at www.buildtheborderfence.com.

“I cannot tell you how many hours have gone into this project, so please, show your support and help do your part to secure our country's border,” Smith said in a released statement. “Remember, all funds collected will be held in a safe trust-fund type account in the State of Arizona Treasurer's office and 100 percent of the funds will be used for the Build the Border Fence project.”

Smith said in an interview with InMaricopa last week that the lack of a border fence is not just the biggest problem facing Arizona, but for the country. “It’s not just illegal aliens, it’s also gangs, terrorists and drug cartels,” he said.

Smith said concerned citizens who donate online will receive an official numbered certificate from the State of Arizona thanking them for their support. “So be sure to donate quickly to get one of the first certificates,” Smith said.

Along with holding an event tonight at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Tommy’s Bistro in Casa Grande to celebrate the site’s launch, Smith has a busy day with the media.

He is scheduled to do live interviews on ABC 15 in Phoenix, the Fox News Channel, MSNBC, G. Gordon Liddy’s radio show from Washington D.C. and Lou Dobbs’ radio show.
