Interstate 10 will be closed from U.S. 60 to State Route 143 from Friday night until Sunday morning this weekend. Fortunately for anyone attending the Arizona Cardinals home opener at State Farm Stadium, the freeway will reopen in time for Maricopans to get to the game without freeway restrictions. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan for closures on westbound Interstate 10 in the East Valley this weekend.

Westbound lanes of I-10 will be closed from U.S. 60 and State Route 143 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday, as crews continue to work on the new Broadway Road bridge.

The freeway will reopen in time for those attending the Arizona Cardinals home opener Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs to travel without restrictions. Fans traveling to the stadium from the Southeast Valley or Southern Arizona also can use Loop 202/South Mountain Freeway to connect with I-10 in the West Valley.

The following ramps will also be closed:

  • Westbound U.S. 60 onto westbound I-10.
  • Elliot and Baseline roads onto Westbound I-10.
  • Westbound U.S. 60 onto McClintock Drive, Rural Road and Mill Avenue.

ADOT recommends using eastbound Loop 202/Santan Freeway or eastbound U.S. 60/Superstition Freeway to northbound Loop 101/Price Freeway, to westbound Loop 202/Red Mountain Freeway to access westbound I-10. Drivers heading to the West Valley can bypass the work zone by using the South Mountain Freeway west and north to connect with I-10 at 59th Avenue.

Motorists traveling on westbound I-10 and U.S. 60 to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport can use the Sky Harbor Boulevard entrance from the Red Mountain Freeway.

When westbound I-10 reopens, the westbound I-10 ramp to eastbound U.S. 60 will be closed for work-zone set up. This may occur as early as 4 a.m. Sunday. The ramp will remain closed until 4 a.m. Monday. Use westbound I-10 to Broadway Road to eastbound I-10 to access U.S. 60 to bypass the closure.

At the same time, the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Baseline Road will remain closed. Drivers can use the westbound I-10 on-ramp at 40th Street.
