Around 7:30 p.m. Thursday police responded to a call of a one-vehicle accident involving an ATV at the corner of Glennwilde and Honeycutt Road. While still under investigation, the rider is suspected of being impaired.

The rider was not wearing any protective equipment when the accident occurred, according to Maricopa Police Department. Details are still being gathered on exactly what happened.

Maricopa locals claiming to be witnesses to the accident said the rider was driving the ATV with no lights on before the incident. Afterward, by-passers said he bleeding from a head injury. The identity of the rider has not been released as the investigation is still open.

“(The) rider was transported to a valley hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Charges pending blood results,” MPD spokesman Ricardo Alvarado said.

Further information will be updated as it becomes available.
