Fun, food and information will all be part of the afternoon's festivities when Maricopa Seniors, Inc. present the 2010 Home, Garden & Business Expo on Sunday, March 21, from 1 to 6 p.m. in Pacana Park.

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my thanks, and gratitude, to the nearly one-thousand Maricopa voters that gave me their support during the recent primary election.

Last month, on Feb. 20, Cub Scout Pack 983 celebrated 100 years of scouting at its annual Blue and Gold celebration. 

Neither the blazing sun, blowing dirt nor heavy winds deterred an estimated 875 Maricopans from joining Bishop Gerald Kicanas on Sunday in celebrating the first Mass on the site that will eventually house a new church and school for Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

 

 

 

 

"Family Fun for Everyone" is the theme of this year's Pinal County Fair. With the diversity of entertainment and exhibits, there will be something that will amuse and amaze everyone.  

As the halftime buzzer sounds, a group of crazy-eyed, mid-20-somethings flood the court with more energy than should be legal. They perform flips and cartwheels; they dance, toss t-shirts, paint faces and craft balloon animals, performing other theatrics designed to pump up the National Basketball Association crowd. It is an act Maricopa residents could soon see at special engagements.

"Mom, can we go to the library?" This phrase was one repeated many times this weekend as evidenced by the large turnout for a special appearance by award-winning children's author Conrad Storad at the Maricopa Public Library. The day was filled with educational fun for Maricopa's youth. See video highlights.

The early bird got the book Saturday as the Friends of the Maricopa Public Library wrapped up another successful semi-annual used book sale at Santa Rosa Elementary School.

Berry Blossom is eight months old.  It appears she's an Australian Cattle Dog mix.

Grant Wiggs, 14, is used to getting off school, going home and taking a nap. "Living in Maricopa, there just really isn't a lot for kids to do," he said. Wiggs isn't alone in his assessment of Maricopa's after school youth activities; 12-year-old Kalob Conrad said he often would be sitting around the house bored after school let out. That recently changed.

Like the long-running TV series, the M.A.S.H. Coalition is alive and well, and it wants you to become a part of addressing substance abuse prevention in the Maricopa area.
